"Mi obsesión" de Angy Skay

Hi everyone! Today I bring you a super special review and it is that it is a collaboration with the LXL publishing house (I leave the web here in case you dare to know them a little more) and a book that, as I anticipate, I liked a lot : "My obsession" by Angy Skay, which is the first part of her homonymous trilogy. (You can get the books on the publisher's own website, as well as on the author's website, as well as on Amazon, other digital platforms and physical bookstores). As many of you know, I met Angy earlier this year through "Killing the Queen" and I loved her way of telling things, going further and always surprising. In this case it was not going to be less but ... before I tell you more I leave you here the synopsis of this book (and then I will give you my opinion).

SYNOPSIS Edgar Warren. My name inspires seriousness, arrogance and may be a bit intimidating. Maybe you are shaking your head because for you it is not. Perfect, but before you put your eyes on the ceiling and think I'm your typical overbearing millionaire, let me tell you a bit, because that's not true either. Don't jump to conclusions. I am someone who has anyone in his hand when and how he wants, and I do not mean only women. Well, do we understand each other? Am I liking you a little more? Maybe not, but give me one more chance. I run a world-renowned transatlantic company, although… to all that, which is very good, there are two problems. The first is that it is going to ruin, the reason I cannot tell you here, and the second is that the culprit that my personality changes is within this book. Do you want to meet her? Her name is Enma, and she has the power to destroy or save me. What do you think it will do? Let me tell you the story of the man who was dominated by one woman. PROS AND CONS The first thing I have to tell you is that when I started reading the novel, I was going blind. I had no idea what was going on and I had not read anything about this book (although I had seen the cover on bookstagram) and since I was going blind and the only thing I had seen of this novel was its cover, I was expecting a totally different book . I will not lie to you and I will tell you that there are not enough sex scenes or that the relationship of the protagonists is not toxic because, after all, it is a romantic-erotic novel but I will tell you that there is much more than that and that it is worth it to the last point. In "My obsession" we meet Edgar and Enma. Edgar is the owner of the Waris Luk cruise chain (the best known in Europe) which is where Enma works. He is a moody, confident, pushy, and authoritarian man who happens to be married with two children. Enma, for her part, is an intelligent, determined and brave girl who makes the mistake of falling in love with him. From there Enma will try to get away from him, although things are not always the way one wants and Enma will have to face her relationship with Edgar and everything she doesn't know about herself and him.

PROS

  • I have loved Edgar's relationship with his children and with his mother as well as the way he treats Enma at times.

  • The pace of the novel is fast and addictive (I promise you it hooks from the beginning).

  • It is ideal to escape a reading break.

  • It escapes from the usual erotica to be a book full of action and plot-twists that make you never foresee what is going to happen.

  • Secondary characters who, despite not having a great role, manage to convey their interest in Enma or Edgar and a good general vibe.

  • Enma as a character itself. I have loved how brave he is, his strength and his determination and the way that, despite being a person who overthinks things, he never hesitates to do anything for those he loves.

  • Tremendous villains and human characters, with lights and shadows. I am not lying to you if I tell you that I have doubted a lot who was who.

  • Nothing is what it seems and it's great that everything is discovered in a timely manner.

  • The chapters are narrated by both Enma and Edgar and that makes you empathize and live it all more.

  • The story is full of passion, intrigue and mystery.

  • Chapters with the exact length: neither short nor long.

  • The end: it's tremendous and I can only tell you that I need more.

CONS

  • At first I had a hard time understanding Enma and Edgar's relationship. It seemed toxic to me and I was wishing Enma would leave him to be alone or in any other relationship as long as it was healthier.

  • Enma's lack of self-esteem at times. Enma is an incredible character and I have grown very fond of her but, as brave as she is, many times she was not able to put the points on the i's or prioritize.

  • Edgar in his scenes of "machito" or screwing up. I have already told you that the relationship they have is not entirely healthy: Edgar is jealous, bossy and possessive and the scenes in which he lost control or forced Enma to listen to him ... they have not been my favorites. Also, Edgar is a professional screwdriver and will make you want to kill him more than once (promised).

QUOTES

  • "Once you annul someone, nothing is the same, and you know it."

  • "-I like to see you laugh. I like it when you blush. I like it when you doubt or when you get emboldened.

-And you're starting to scare me - I confessed "

  • "I don't want you to disappear."

  • "Many times I asked myself why we were such idiots when we fell in love. And the answer I got was very simple: because we really fell in love, because we really loved."

  • "Why did you wait for me? - He asked me without further ado. - Because I knew you were not well."

  • "I want you to know, whatever happens, whatever you do ... - he looked at me carefully -, that you will always be one of the best things that have happened to me in my life."

  • "You can't change the past, but you can change the present."

  • "Do not give up and seek happiness with whoever gives it to you. Do not be stubborn and learn from mistakes."

PUNCTUATION

For me this book is a 4/5 gentleman. It is not a 5 because I am sure that the second part will get even better and I am looking forward to discovering it and being surprised.

CONCLUSION

"My Obsession" by Angy Skay is a book loaded with passion, mystery, intrigue and action.

A book that hooks from the first moment and that escapes from everything you can imagine in a book of the genre to be a surprising novel in which nobody is what they seem to be and everyone has much more to tell. A highly recommended novel, agile and addictive to read.

If you have come this far, thank you very much for reading me!
